Whooops
drinks4one:
I just accidentally deleted everything off of my backup hard drive.
R.I.P. Everything I’ve done in the last 3 years.
You probably already know this, but it is often possible to recover data that’s been “deleted,” since most common deletion algorithms are reversible.

Thanks a lot Oprah, for taking the joy out of reading. I feel pretty David Lynch-ish on the whole enjoying media from a tiny technological device issue.

Fun and informative. Even more confused about what computer I want, now. They weren’t so nice to the little dell that I mentioned. I am enchanted with the idea of a netbook- something light and adorable- but I don’t know if it’s worth the sacrifices. Dell won’t let me increase the memory on that litte thing. I’m really trying to fight the mac urge because of the $$$… but maybe xmas money...
Wanting a new laptop

Also, Max has pretty much talked me in to giving Ubuntu a spin (and sort of talked me out of a mac: “you’re just paying for an image!”). I’m looking forward to this makeover of my digital life.

My back is fixed!
snaggleraggle:
So, I went to see a physical therapist in Macon today to see about my back issues. I talked to him for about 5 minutes about my problems, and then he got me to stand with my back facing him. He immediately determined the pinpoint of my back pain just by feeling my back-he could tell that the upper arc of my right pelvis was higher than the left side in the front and lower in the...

Brantley! This is so much better in execution than I had even imagined from the script. Great Coen-ish vibe. (via brantleyjones)
Pitchfork’s list of “Honorable Mentions” for album of the year contains many of the best albums of the year, and surely has more good records than their actual top 20 will.
Education.
It’s shocking how much you sometimes retain from educational experiences, despite your firm conviction that you’ve forgotten everything from a specific class. I’m rewriting a paper I wrote for an epistemology seminar I had last year that I was somewhat lukewarm on, and it’s consistently surprising the degree to which what I learned in that class has become a part of my...

TERRIFYING. “The Disappearing Male.” Boy babies are… going extinct. Because of plastics. (via brantleyjones)
So I heard this joke: it’s a meeting of the Human Project, and all the greatest minds in the world are sitting around, discussing what’s happened, why nobody can make babies anymore. And one scientist says to another, “Well, I think it’s the water. What do...

i’d really like to start a few new daily habits. things to be done every. single. day.
1. meditation. i am not good at this. so far, i don’t even like it. but i’m buying into it.

This is a very good list. I am going to try some of these…If I tried to meditate though, I would probably just fall asleep.
You should try it some time. Even if you...

The first good BoingBoing post in a long time (by a guest blogger, of course) discusses what innate ways of thinking lend themselves to being a good programmer. This makes absolute sense to me. You will have a much better time of it working with computers if you don’t expect anything they do to make sense.
Also, it explains why programmers love Monty Python.
Podcasts
allisonweiss:
I finished listening to all of Once More With Feeling. I’m blazing through the Savage Lovecast. I’m dying for more. Anyone got any suggestions?
I’m looking for anything involving love or lols or both.
My favorite, back when I listened to podcasts, were The Sound of Young America and Benjamen Walker’s Theory of Everything.
My last hour DJing in Memorial Hall
will be tonight at 9 PM. I’m putting together the playlist now, and I can already tell it’s going to be a challenge to keep it together. Stream it from wuog.org.

Tomorrow: last time DJing in Memorial Hall, ever. But, can it top today? (Probably).
This is good. Awesome job playing Modern Lovers after the pseudo-Modern Lovers ripoff (this is not sarcastic. Sometimes I don’t know how to sound not sarcastic on the internet). “I’m straight, and I want to take his place.” Great song. Also reminds me that I need to play...
